About Us

Illawarra regional leaders established The Illawarra Connection in 1993 to promote the Illawarra for the benefit of all regional businesses and the community.

Our prime objectives are to substantiate the viability of the region for conducting business, to support the provision of all levels of employment and management opportunities, as well as the excellent community environment that goes hand-in-hand with worthwhile and abundant employment.

TIC provides a forum for communication between members on a wide range of interests.

The membership includes the leaders of government, business, industry, academia, media, religion and service industries of the region at mostly a CEO level.

Over the past twenty one years TIC has provided an ideal forum for communication between regional business and community leaders on a wide range of topical interests.

Members enhance their membership through networking and conducting business with other business leaders as well as attending the six regular black tie networking dinner meetings conducted each year highlighted by high profile, distinguished and professional guest speakers.

As well for the past thirteen years, TIC in conjunction with the University of Wollongong and its Sydney Business School has been able to offer a scholarship to undertake an MBA (or other accepted course) to someone nominated by a member.

TIC also provides funding for a participant in the Illawarra Emerging Leaders Program in conjunction with Regional Development Australia Illawarra and the Sydney Business School of the University of Wollongong.

TIC'S WIDER INTERESTS
The Illawarra Connection has been established by professional business leaders to promote the Illawarra Region and improve its image and self-esteem for the benefit of all business and community at large.
PRIME OBJECTIVES
TIC's prime objectives are to substantiate the viability of the region for conducting business, to support the provision of all levels of employment and management opportunities, as well as the excellent community environment that goes hand-in-hand with worthwhile and abundant employment. TIC provides a forum for communication between members on a wide range of interests.
UNITY OF PURPOSE
Though TIC concerns itself with the whole of the Illawarra it fully accepts and appreciated the parochial rights of individuals sub-regions within the region. We wish, therefore, to work together with sub-regional business organisations wherein doing so will be to the betterment of the total infrastructure.
A ROLE TO PLAY
By working towards these goals TIC believes it can play an important role in the development of a totally unified infrastructure for the Illawarra. To this end TIC is developing close ties with the political decision makers in Federal and State Government and Opposition; individual politicians and associate members.
SUPPORT FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION
TIC is a strong advocate of a sound education policy in the Illawarra. We believe successful tertiary education, geared to the particular needs of the business community, is integral to the orderly and community - beneficial economic growth of the region. We maintain close links to the University of Wollongong.
REWARDS FOR WORKING TOGETHER
TIC believes it is not too idealistic to think that by businesses working together it can create an economic environment that will be individually and collectively rewarding. Also, it will be an environment in which it is pleasing to work and live.
