|Date:||Tuesday, 5 June 2018|
|Venue:||Novotel Wollongong NorthBeach|
|Speaker:||Nikki Gemmell - Internationally Acclaimed and Best-selling Author; national columnist; 'Gong Girl|
Nikki Gemmell is a born and bred 'Gong Girl; a proud alumni of Keiraville Public School. She has written 15 books, both fiction and non-fiction. Her work has been published in 22 languages and received critical acclaim around the world. In France, Nikki has been described as "the female Jack Kerouac" and French literary magazine Lire included her in a list of fifty writers most likely to have a significant influence on writing in the 21st century.
Nikki is best known for her 2003 novel, international sensation The Bride Stripped Bare, which was originally published anonymously. Last year Nikki published After, about a tempestuous mother/daughter relationship that began on the foothills of Mt Keira. It also examined the euthanasia death of her mother, Elayn Gemmell. Her most recent book is On Quiet, a plea for quiet in our busy lives; which includes tips for achieving it. She has just finished her first novel in seven years, an historical murder mystery called The Ripping Tree, which will be published early next year. Nikki will also be known to many as a columnist for the Weekend Australian.
Our own Nick Hartgerink will lead a Q&A with Nikki about her life and work, from literally conquering the literary world to the deeply personal account of her mother's life and death shared in After.
